Alsof er niets is veranderd

"The chief executive of a major corporation, so the oft-repeated story goes, joked that his general counsel was his only department head in the company with an unlimited budget...and every year he exceeded it! The message of the anecdote is unmistakable: legal expenses seem out of control and have reached the threshold of pain even for the giant corporation.
Yet in the midst of executive frustration over this seemingly unmanageable problem, internal legal functions have been growing dramatically."

"Until recently, few if any chief executives looked to their general counsel to introduce cost controls into the legal function."

De twee bovenstaande citaten zullen voor menig General counsel en CEO/CFO herkenbaar zijn. Het is een issue wat hoog op de agenda staat. Welnu de citaten zijn uit een artikel uit 1983. Wat hebben we sindsdien geleerd, gedaan, if any?
